Energy management in the Education Sector
Learning about carbon reduction doesn’t have to be a chore...
Human beings are always learning, from the cradle to the grave. For some people, education is part of a long-term career plan. For others, it’s a way to earn qualifications that will get us a dream job – or simply a job. In the current climate it is also important that we improve our education in sustainability. As a leader in education and sustainability, with a strong, long-term record, we’re playing our part in delivering the information, data and analysis that is essential for these sectors to thrive.
In the Education sector we are combining these skills in our approach to helping clients to reduce their carbon footprints and to manage the risks associated with government carbon legislation. An important piece of legislation continuing in 2011 is the Carbon Reduction Commitment – Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC-EES) which has been enacted to reduce carbon consumption within the UK. If you have any Half-Hourly metered sites or spend more than £500k a year on energy and utilities you are legally obliged to register as a participant in the scheme.
In order to support our clients in mitigating the risks of the CRC scheme we have established an end to end web-based energy management service called “Logica aM&T”. Our clients are using this service to conveniently control carbon and reduce energy bills.
Currently we are combining our experience in education and carbon reduction, working closely with the Skills Funding Agency and other Educational organisations to measure and manage their energy usage across the buildings in their estates. The Skills Funding Agency funds and regulates adult Further Education (FE) and skills training in England. It forms part of a network of organisations in the country that commission, manage and market training for adults.
